# Slots and limits

> How tracking slots work, and what happens when you change plan.

A **slot** is one tracked account. Your plan decides how many you get.

  The free tier keeps **2** slots rather than zero on purpose: two tracked accounts is the minimum for [🔀 Convergence](/alerts/types) to be able to fire, so the free tier can still show you the signal the product is actually for.

## Checking your usage

`/list` shows used and remaining slots. `/status` shows the same alongside your plan and how many alerts you have received. The main `/menu` screen shows a slot bar at the top.

## Upgrading

Moving to a higher plan raises your slot count immediately. Nothing on your list is disturbed — the accounts you already track keep their baselines and keep running.

## Downgrading or letting a plan lapse

If your new slot count is lower than the number of accounts you track, the extra accounts are **archived**, not deleted.

  Archived accounts keep their place. When you upgrade again, you can restore them rather than re-adding from memory — and restoring goes through the normal add path, so a fresh baseline is taken and you do not get a flood of stale alerts.

## Freeing a slot

The only way to free a slot is `/remove`. There is no way to "pause" one account while keeping its baseline.

If you want to stop alerts entirely without touching your list, switch the alert toggles off instead — see [History and settings](/alerts/history-and-settings).

## Running out

When you try to add past your limit, XHuntr tells you rather than silently dropping the account. Your options are to remove someone, or upgrade.

## Extra slots

Slot counts can be set individually, so a plan may carry more slots than the table above if extra ones were added to your account. `/status` and `/list` always show your real limit — trust those over the table.
