# Spy Account

> See every community an account is in right now, without spending a slot.

Tracking tells you what changes. **Spy Account** tells you what is true *right now* — a one-off lookup of every X community an account belongs to.

```text theme={null}
/communities elonmusk
```

In `/menu` it is **🔍 Spy Account**.

## What you get back

For each community the account is in:

* The community name
* Their **role** in it — owner, admin, or member
* **Member count**
* **When the community was created**

Owner plus a recent creation date on an account nobody is watching yet is the shape most worth a second look.

## Why this is useful

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Vetting before you spend a slot" icon="filter">
    Check whether an account is actually active in communities before committing one of your limited slots to it.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Investigating an alert" icon="binoculars">
    A Coin Mention just fired. Spy the account and see what else they are in and what they own.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## It does not use a slot

Spy Account is a live lookup, not tracking. It costs you nothing from your plan and works on **any** X account — it does not have to be on your list. You can also pick straight from your tracked list instead of typing a handle.

<Note>
  Because it is a live read, Spy Account has no memory. It will not tell you a community was created yesterday rather than last year, beyond the creation date shown. For change-over-time you want [tracking](/tracking/add-accounts).
</Note>

## When it comes back empty

"No communities" is a real answer, not an error — plenty of accounts are in none. If the handle itself cannot be found, check the spelling on x.com; handles change often.
